Morning
(Total reading time 1 minute)

Getting out of bed in the morning is not my favorite part of the day. The first few moments stretching and turning to find the edge of the bed are always my favorite. Putting my feet down on the floor I always feel the aches in my feet from yesterdays run. I usually walk towards the front door and check the mailbox for days daily deposit of bills, circulars and invitations for free car insurance quotes. If it is a good day warm sunshine will be waiting on the opposite side of the storm door to greet me with a friendly smile. The slate covered porch will be dry. There will be no twittering birds. Every writers mentions “twittering birds” in the morning. Where I live the birds chirp all damn night starting usually around 2 or 3am. When I get up the early bird looking for the worm has moved on to take a nap under a tree branch some place.

On the weekends the hope of warm sunshine is replaced by a simple good morning kiss from wife inviting me to start the day with her. Thankfully there is only one more day till the weekend.

Thats all I have to say.

Everything Can Be Easier With Friends

Goals with Friends
(Total reading time 1 minute)

After a near 20 mile bike ride this morning hear are my thoughts.

Everything is easier with friends. To often we spend time setting goals and forget about them when we are faced with a challenge. When you begin your quest for something the road can get very lonely by yourself. When you reach an obstacle the battle begins between reality and the little guy in your brain that tries to convince you it’s time to quit.  Self discipline and determination can put much more distance between you and the evil little quitter but another person will silence him all together.  This could happen through motivating conversation, distraction, encouragement or just a plain old reality check.  Reaching a difficult goal can be made attainable and possibly even fun if you just allow yourself to have some help.

Find other people that are inspired to go out and live.

Thats all I have to say.

A Summer BBQ

Summer BBQ
(Total reading time 1 minute)

Nothing says summer like weekend barbecues with friends and family. Labor day weekend has always been a time for people across the United States to get together one last time before the morning school bell rings.

Boxes of frozen superstore hamburgers and hot dogs keep people at ease.
Then the real food is served.
Slow cooked pork pulling away from the bones it was once attached to.
Ribs swimming in secret sauces.
The cold salads featuring the carbohydrate of your choice.
Dressed in a mayonnaise based recipe.
Ahh summer.

Near there is always a cooler long retired from fishing trips.
Its color is slowing fading
Beaten up by the sun,
Its inside stuffed with cubes of cheap bagged ice,
Sodas and a of beers.

The sun falls from the sky above
One person begins to leave,
and then the next.
Left overs are sandwiched between paper plates
wrapped in foil.
Empty bottles of beer are gathered for recycling.
The propane runs low,
The grill begins to cool.

So long summer.

Thats all I have to say.

Summer Is Almost Over
(Total reading time 1 minute)

It is only the second day of September and the leaves on the tree in front of our house have begun to litter the ground covering whats left of the last few days of summer. I keep searching through memories looking for where the summer went. I felt like I have done so much this summer and at the same time so little.

The last few months have been packed with weekly 5Ks, many great books, late night meals and glasses of cold wine, the usual hours of work, special moments with my wife, a movie here and there, a spontaneous drive all the way from New York to the Florida Keys after our Jet Blue was canceled, and best of all – No Television.

As for the fall, even though its not officially fall just yet, I love the fall. It is a beautiful time of year, I’m just not ready to start bitching about the cold months that follow it.

Thats all I have to say.

1 Month Of Silence Comes To An End

The Silence Has Ended.
(Total reading time 1 minute)

1 month ago today my postaday2011 went silent.  Each day I posted a picture on my blog that I hoped would best capture the mood, feeling, or events of the day. I thought is would be easy.  The change felt refreshing and easy for the first 3 or 4 days. Then as I began to run out of ideas I started looking at my day with much more detail.  I began asking myself what did I do interesting today?  What does this image say?  There were many times throughout the month that made me feel like I need to get out more.  Explore the world around me.

At times I drove my wife nuts.  For a portion of the month of August we were traveling on vacation.  Many of my photo posts were done using her Iphone 4 and the wordpress mobile application.  I have an Iphone as well but it is a much older version that has come to crawl.  The battery life is minimal, the processing speed on it can barely run an application and connecting to the net is intermittent at best.  Fortunately for me, like always, my wife welcomes these interesting little challenges I take on and supports me through them.

There were many nights throughout the month that I wanted to write instead of using an image in my post, but once I had made the decision to go wordless for 1 month I stuck with it.  I have learned time and time again it is extremely important to stick by your decisions.

So with the last quarter of the year remaining and summer beginning to fade the postaday2011 challenge continues.

Thats all I have to say.
