Another Night Another Chicken

With 10 posts left in the year what else could I do but post a photo of a chicken I cooked for dinner tonight.

Just your basic oven roasted chicken with a nice rub and carved off the bone to perfection. A Real man knows how to cook a whole chicken and carve it off its frame when the time comes.

Thats is all I have to say.

How To Kick Start 2012

More about: , , , , , , No Comments »

There are only 11 days left in 2011 and just 10 post’s left on my quest to post on my blog every day for 365 days straight with out stopping. With such a short time left in the year this is not the time to be thinking about what you didn’t accomplish for the year. The last two weeks of December should be all about the pre game.

To kickstart your 2012 this is the time of year that you should be:

  • Recapping all of the positive things you did this year.
  • Take time to be grateful for all this year has brought you.
  • Get motivated to take on next year proactively. I suggest taking the three or four things that motivate you the most and doing a cram session right before the new year.  My favorite books to read or just even skim through right before the new year starts are:
  • Begin to think about your goals for next year.
  • Make adjustments to any goals that may carry over from this year or didn’t quite go as planned.
  • Get your fun stuff list together. I keep a list of cool things I want to try, books i might want to read, or places I might want to go. I go to this list through out they year when ever I have a bit of extra time or a few dollars to splurge on something fun.
  • Reflect (Not dwell) on the few moments you may have had in the last year that sucked. If their are actionable items you can take to prevent things from sucking again, make a note. If not just keep it moving. DO NOT DWELL ON THE PAST, just LEARN what you can from AND MOVE ON.

Dont wait until New Years Eve to start making some bullshit resolutions. Start planning and focusing on what you want in your life so you can take action.

Thats all I have to say.

A White Christmas

Jim Carey has always been a hilarious and inventive comedian. I have been watching him through all his shows and movies since the In Living Color days. While browsing youtube this afternoon looking for other renditions of the famous christmas carol White Christmas I cam across this video of Jim Carey with Leno.  Warning this might only be funny to musicians!

An amazing side note is that Jim Carey can actually sing.  So to sing in those intervals and pitch relationships against the band like that is VERY difficult.

That’s all I have to say.

Not The Best Year For NY Football

More about: , , , , , No Comments »

I am not a dedicated football fan by any means. If I’m out and around though and either the New York Jets or Giants are playing I can not help but be glued to the screen watching each play. I was having lunch with my wife today at a local hamburger chain and saw about 20 minutes of the Giants game. To say I was disappointed in their performance today would be a bit of an understatement. Yes I know it was a bit cold in the New Jersey today but it didn’t seem to be an issue for the Red Skins. On the field the Giants looked as if they had already lost. You would think after last weeks huge win they would be feeling pretty positive about possibly doing something with the end of the season. The NY Giants that have won a decent handful of Superbowl showed up last week to play the Cowboys and then went and hid in a cave someplace for today’s game.  Without a doubt they did not show up to play today.  Football rant and most of the NY Football season over. Enough said.

That is all I have to say.

Catching Fire – Book No. 50

More about: , , No Comments »

I have completed and surpassed by goal to read 40 books for the year finishing book no. 50.  Catching Fire by Suzzane Collins.

Catching Fire is the 2nd book in the Hunger Games Trilogy. Catching Fire was just as fun to read as the the first book and I’m sure the last book will be good.  I have a few other things on my list of to read before I make it to The Mocking Jay but the story has hooked me in to the point I don’t know if I will be able to wait that long.

Bob Brookmeyer Dec 19, 1929 – Dec 16,2011

I heard through a friends post on Facebook today that jazz arranger and composer Bob Brookmeyer had died. Unfortunately I never got to meet him or see him perform life. I did spend a bit of time studying his music when I was in  college.

If you never have heard his music before spend a few minutes checking this out. Very cool stuff.

4 Trillion Dollars Is A Lot Of

More about: , , , , , No Comments »

I read some place in the news today that the IRAQ war has and will cost the United States over 4 Trillion Dollars. There are so many zeros in trillion I had to look it up on google. 4 trillion is written with a 4 followed by 12 zeros after it. That is a mind blowing, no pun intended, amount of money. It both saddens and confuses me that our society asks so few questions about spending that much money on WAR and Killing and then has such a staggeringly difficult time spending money on something like health care for every one in our country.

I really hate politics simply because government and politics is about just that, not the actual caring and development of humanity. I challenge some one out there on the internet who is good with research and statistics to calculate the amount of hours president Bush, and the other branches of our government spent making the ultimate decision of sending our troops to war killing 4483, and injuring over 33,000  (I don’t know how accurate these figures out but it is still sad  this list on CNN is 97 pages longvs the amount of hours spent fighting over health care issues in United States that still have not been solved.

Next time you are in a supermarket and go to purchase:

  • A can of soup
  • A package of chicken
  • A bag of rice or flour.
  • A book
  • A Prescription

Divide that 4,000,000,000,000 by that number.

That is what a war costs.

Sorry for the political rant but it has been festering in my mind all day.

Thats all I have to say.

Ride To The Beach

More about: , , , , , No Comments »

I stepped outside this afternoon and took in a breath of somewhat mild December air. I thought I better seize this opportunity and enjoy a nice ride on my bike before it gets too cold. I did a bit more then a 26 mile round trip from the door to the boardwalk of Jones Beach and back. The total time of the tip was just over 2 hours. I can easily see myself doing a 50 mile ride once the spring comes.

Don’t Should All Over The Place

More about: , , , , No Comments »

From time to time we all become victims of the “Should”. When you catch yourself saying things “I should….” it is time to take a break and revaluate your focus. About three to four times a year I find I need a few days to look over my goals and do some house keeping. I take time out from the ordinary grind and start asking myself questions like:

  • Where am I in relationship to my goals?
  • What if any projects do I have outstanding?
  • What do I need to do that I might be putting off? Why?
  • What have I done successfully in the last few months?
  • What are things I can do to improve my business and personal life?
  • Which of these things will have the most long lasting impact or return on investment?

While your driving down the interstate of life it is a good idea to get off every once and a while. Grab a snack, check the oil, and check the map. Fill you fuel up and then get back on and keep going.  Following the path to success is determined by knowing where your goals are and taking the appropriate steps to get there.

Thats all I have to say.
