Things Are Just To Easy

Modern Man
(Total reading time 2 minutes)

This evening while I was at the supermarket with my wife something came over me as I glanced down the long shelf of refrigerated meat.

I am a hunter.

I don’t walk around the neighborhood in a camouflage outfit or wear a red flannel hat like Elmer Fudd.  I don’t even own a gun, bow, or anything even close to a weapon other then the Henckels knives I use for cooking.  By nature though I am a hunter. Each night I leave my home looking for food that has become all to easy to find and I am not the only one.

As a society we have lost are will to hunt, explore, and survive.  We do what we are told and bitch about the things that inconvenience us when they do.  A million years ago (give or take a few hundred million) our ancestors had two concerns survive and reproduce.  Fast forward to the present time, any day in your local Starbucks some one is freaking out because they can’t wait in line for 3 minutes while some one prepares them a Caramel Macchiato with an extra shot of expresso, no whip cream and soy milk.

I am not suggesting that I don’t like convenience.  Who doesn’t?  With everything comes side effects and cost.  Convenience has carved our culture of hunters and  gathers into a society of collectors and complainers.  Things that once enhanced are lives have now become cement blocks of dependency that form the foundation for us to even function.

So why you ask does all this even matter?

It matters because deep with in our structure as human beings we still have the need to explore, hunt, gather, and live.  The key to our happiness is locked deep with in these needs.  I’m not suggesting you go to Walmart buy a shotgun and a box of shells.  What you can do though is realize the modern conveniences we have been afforded in terms of survival should allow us to explore, create, and gather more, not the just the opposite.

Thats all I have to say.

Goals with Friends
(Total reading time 1 minute)

After a near 20 mile bike ride this morning hear are my thoughts.

Everything is easier with friends. To often we spend time setting goals and forget about them when we are faced with a challenge. When you begin your quest for something the road can get very lonely by yourself. When you reach an obstacle the battle begins between reality and the little guy in your brain that tries to convince you it’s time to quit.  Self discipline and determination can put much more distance between you and the evil little quitter but another person will silence him all together.  This could happen through motivating conversation, distraction, encouragement or just a plain old reality check.  Reaching a difficult goal can be made attainable and possibly even fun if you just allow yourself to have some help.

Find other people that are inspired to go out and live.

Thats all I have to say.

When Was The Last Time You Took A Leap Of Faith

A Leap Of Faith
(Total reading time 1 minute)

Want your life to change?  If you continuing doing the same thing your doing now that will never happen.  What do you need to make that transition?  A Leap Of Faith.

I’m not suggesting a trip to your local religious establishment, although there is nothing wrong with that either.  What I am talking about is faith in your self.  You can wish for success all you want. You still need to take the first step.

The first step might be small, like opening the door to leave your house or it might be much scarier like opening the door to a blackened, shadow filled staircase in a Hitchcock movie.  Either way you will still need to make that step.  Life only rewards people that are not afraid to take chances.

When was the last time you took a leap of faith?

Thats all I have to say.

Why You Need A Plan

Why you need a plan.
(Total reading time 1 minute)

Life is full of choices.  Some of them easy, some not so easy.  Without a
plan making a tough decision can consume you.  When you have a specific
goal in mind the easiest way to make a decision is to see how that choice
effects your ultimate plan.

Sometimes that choice might not seem the easiest but it might be the best.

It is important that you share your plan and goals with the people closest
around you.  In doing so they will ultimately support any tough decisions
you make.

Thats all I have to say.

Some Thoughts On Success

How To Make A Successful Choice.
(Total reading time 1 minute)

What makes a person successful?  Is it their drive towards a goal?  Their Talent?

The level of success you achieve is directly related to your ability to solve problems.  Not mathematical problems, just whatever problem needs to be solved.  To often people set out on a goal with great intentions in mind.  Then as the goal becomes difficult or progresses through its first stages of failure they give up.  I am a true believer that you can be anything that you want to be in life.  The catch?  You must truly want to be what it is that your are seeking.

Their is a very big difference between trying something and dedicating your self to it.
If you are not sure you want to do something,
TRY IT. If you are sure then DEDICATE your self to it.

When challenges arise here is how you should face them.
If you are DEDICATED to your goal FIND A SOLUTION.
If you are TRYING something out because you are just not sure, decide if you want to QUIT now and try something else, or become DEDICATED and FIND A SOLUTION.

Thats all I have to say.

How Musicians Should Spend Money On Their Career

Spending On Your Career
(Total reading time 1 minute)

Today’s post is going to continue going through some of the questions people in the audience were asking at this past weeks ASCAP New York Sessions music industry event.

During one Panel on Success in the Music Business one aspiring artist asked:

If I had a budget of $4000 what is the best way to spend it to advance my career.

I would have suggested to him that he take the $4000 ,or a larger part of it and put it in the bank and use that money to support him for a period of time that he could take off from his day job.  You can do a lot on your own but only if you have the time to do it.   It is important to spend your money wisely, but even more important to spend your time wisely.

  • With time you can focus on what actually needs to be done.
  • With time you can find ways to generate money with your music.
  • With time you can begin to enjoy your life again and become creative.

Yes money is a valuable resource, time is more valuable though.

Thats all I have to say.

Keep On Running

Less then 2 months until the Long Island Half Marathon
(Total reading time 2 minutes)

This May I plan on running my 2nd half marathon. With less then 2 months of training time left it was time to step it up. Today I suited up in my Nike- Dri-Fit running gear and my new blue and white Saucony running sneakers. The two biggest obstacles for any runner to over come are-finding the motivation to get started and the weather. For once getting started was the easy part the weather although sunny was not as pleasant to deal with. Long Island’s Eisenhower park is one of the nicest places to run in the Long Island area, the only downside is its always windy. On a calm day it is only windy in certain areas, mostly where there are no trees. On a windy day it can become unbearable, especially during an hour long run. When I first started out my back was tight and each step was slightly painful. The wind crept beneath my Northface sweatshirt and tried to convince me that this was not a good idea. For the first ten minutes the cold draft circling my chest made a strong case for quitting, but as my body warmed up I decided to continue.   I finished the first 3 miles in about 28 minutes.  A little slow for me but not bad considering the cold.  When the weather is warmer I can complete 3 miles some place between 24-and 26 minutes.  With half of the run completed I began a slower pace.  Running long distance is all about building up endurance slowly. With each additional mile the cold and wind became more of a mental block.   The more tired you become, the more the weather challenges you-the tougher the mental battle with yourself becomes. The ongoing argument between my brain and a nasty four letter word spelled “q-u-i-t” continued for the remanning miles. I n less then an hour the 6 mile run had been conquered.  The 2 minute walk to the car seemed to take for ever.  My dehydrated body could only think of the poland spring oasis that waited for me in a plastic bottle in the back seat of the car.  Finally I opened the door, sat down, and began to quench my thirst.  As I drank, I thought of the training I still have to do to reach the final half marathon length of just over 13 miles.  Tomorrow the week starts over and the running continues.

Thats all I have to say.

Anything Can Be
(Total reading time 2-3 minutes)

During a routine trip to the library today I remembered to pick up Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. About two weeks ago Shel Silverstein’s work became fresh in my mind again after reading that he had wrote the funny Johnny Cash song A Boy Named Sue. I have brief memories of the book from when I was a child but no recent recollection of it so it was time for a revisit. As I read some of the quirky and sometimes tongue twisting poems to my wife during the drive home we both laughed, smiled and giggled from a place deep with in the innocence of our childhood.

Hidden deeper beneath the laughter and giggles though are the thoughts of a serious dreamer and thinker. It blows my mind how such simple writing can be deceptively complex with meaning, truth and guidance.

If you can do nothing else for your self this week. Take 5 minutes out to sit down with the 5 year old hiding inside you. Coax him or her out from under the bed. Tell them the thunderstorm of responsibility, the lightening of bills, and the rain of endless streaming information has ended. For a few minutes its okay to empty your toys on the floor and play.

LISTEN TO THE MUSTN’TS
by Shel Silverstein from Where The Sidewalk Ends

Listen to the MUSTN’TS, child,
Listen to the DON’TS
Listen to the SHOULDN’TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me ––
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be.

Have awesome day.
Thats all I have to say.

What Should You Really Be Doing

Peter WeisSelf Actualization
(Total reading time 1-2 minutes)

Have you ever asked your self in a moment of unhappiness:

What should I really being doing?

Most of us know the answer to that question already, we just choose to ignore it.

It has taken me just over a month to come up with this years focus. After many cups of coffee and a few long walks contemplating a noble goal for the year it finally hit me. For 2011 I want to start working towards realizing my full potential. Over the past few years I have worked on this a bit, but I feel the time has come that this needs to take more focus in my life.

Here is my objective:

Maximizing my strengths-living in a way that uses my talents to create a sustainable life for myself and family.

Something tells me this will not be an easy road to follow over the next 11 months.

What should you really be doing?

Now on to finish reading Dan Brown’s Lost Symbol. Book 6 for my goal of 50 books for the year.

Thats all I have to say.

6 Tips For Using The Law Of Attraction In Your Life.

More about: , , , , , , , 11 Comments »

Do you believe in the law of attraction? You should.

The law of attraction is one of the most fundamental things that a person striving to achieve any goal must understand. First of course you must have goals. Once you have a goal you still have one thing to do: Work passionately towards those goals. Passion is the spark that ignites the power of attraction in all of us.

So how do I know all this and why do I believe it is so important?  Simple. I have experienced it in my own life over and over again. Don’t believe me?

Over this past year I had grown a strong interest in the sport of triathlon. I had written on my list of goals for 2010 to complete a sprint triathlon, the shortest distance. Some times a goal takes a little longer to accomplish in your life then expected. Thats okay. I plan on trying one this year. The biggest obstacle I encountered was-I was not sure how to train. Besides that I had questions. I didn’t have any friends that were triathletes. I was very interested though. I did a fair amount of training over the summer biking and running. I read many of the websites about triathlon. It was a subject I thought about frequently. When I would run in the evening I would imagine my self competing in a triathlon. I eventually met two triathletes. the first had just finished his first half-iron man. He talked with me for almost an hour. He gave me information on teams in my area I could train with, tips for getting started with swimming, even diet suggestions. Most of all he shared his own passion for the sport. I was excited. I told everyone I knew I had met some one that actually had finished a half iron man. The flame burned stronger. I told my self even more this is really something I want to experience. Less then a month later. I met a woman in her 40’s who was a five time Iron Man, and the first place winner for her age group of Iron Man Brazil. I guess by now I should explain what an Iron Man is. An Iron Man (Or Iron Woman Man) is a person who has completed the most grueling type of triathlon in the world. The race begins with a 2.4 mile swim. Once you get out of the water you get on a bicycle and travel a 112 miles. When your finished, you take off your helmet and then run 26.2 miles. It is one of the most difficult tests of physical endurance a person can attempt. This woman, who looked in shape but 10 years older then myself had completed 5 iron man races. Amazing. We talked for a few minutes. She offered me her card so I could contact her if I needed a trainer and pointed me in the direction I needed to get started. If you focus on something long enough the resources you need will present themselves. You will attract them in. This is only one of many examples in my life.

For almost everything in my life that I enjoy I consistently meet people that share similar interests. Still not convinced? In the last two weeks I have been reading tons of books about writing, and participating in the postaday2011 blog challenge. Just yesterday I met a professional freelance writer working on her third novel. She offered me advice on a few topics and we shared some of the books we were both in the process reading.

Please share you own experiences and questions about the law of attraction in the comments section below.

Here are 6 tips to get you started using law of attraction in your own life.

Have passion.
What ever you love and focus your energy on will surround you. (This works both ways so if you walk around miserable all the time guess how things are going to continue.) When people see you are a passionate person they will be more willing to encourage you and help you on your journey.

Explore the people around you.
Exploring the people around you is the real secret to understanding how to use the law of attraction. When you are passionate about something you are drawing energy about that idea or similar energy towards you. That does not mean it is going to be delivered by the UPS man in the morning. What it means is you need to get to know and interact with the people around you. Say hello. If conversation allows find out more. You will be surprised at what you find.  I can not emphasize this enough.

Try as hard as possible to keep a positive out look on things.
The law of attraction is at work no matter what. If you don’t focus on the good, the bad will come instead.

Don’t expect miracles over night.
I have found in my own life that your own power of attraction is a muscle waiting to be developed. The more you focus on it the stronger it will become.

Don’t be afraid to share your goals and dreams with people.
The guy in the gas station can’t help you with directions if you don’t tell him where you are trying to go. Sometimes all you have to do is be willing and courageous enough to ask.

Don’t be afraid to accept help towards your dreams and goals.
There is nothing wrong with being humble. Don’t be so humble that you miss the opportunities people give you.

Thats all I have to say….
