Grimaldi’s Brick Oven Pizza in Garden City, NY
It was beautiful out today. I put in 17+ miles on my bike. This was such a great purchase.
The temperature climbed over 50 degrees today. A perfect chance to get the cycling cleats on and pedal on the road for a bit. I went out for a bit more then an hours ride. Once I got passed the traffic all was smooth and beatufiul. I even passed a pair of horse back riders on a trail that moved parallel to the road.
The temperature in NY this morning was surfing in the low 40′s. Not my favorite conditions for running but manageable. Except for the sections in Eisenhower Park where the winds was blowing openly the run was pretty pleasant.
Below I have put some of my favorite current running gear.
Newton Running Sneakers.
Vibram Five Finger KSO’s
Nike Dry Fit Pants.
Hot Chilly’s Thermal Under layer (I uses these for cycling also)
I’ve also been using MapMyRun to track my workouts, cycling rides and most of my nutrition information. Just being able to look at the Data at the end day is at time both inspiring and eye opening. The Nutritional information can really bring awareness to what you are actually consuming each day.
I rode by Eisenhower Park today on my way home from the bank. Eisenhower Park is truly one of Nassau County’s best assets. During the summer I run a 5k Race here every week with the Long Island road Runners Club. This past fall I began using the Aquatic Center pool two to three times a week. It is essential that every community have local park. There are already enough malls, supermarkets and strip stores.
The weather was unseasonably warm today. I had planned to hit up the local indoor and swim for a bit. Instead I thought this could be my chance to finally take my Trek road bike for a nice ride. I bought it just over two weeks ago and prior today haven’t taken it out for more then a few miles locally. Local riding around my house is very limited because of the high traffic roads that surround the area. Its hard to build up speed, college kids are driving and texting. It is an area where you can not relax, always on guard to squeeze the breaks. I left my house at 12:00 this afternoon and returned just before 2:00 pm. The first few miles of the ride sucks because of the traffic. Once I got to the north side of Long Island the roads are spread out with very light passing traffic. The surrounding neighborhoods are scattered with massive estates reminiscent of the Gold Cost Era. It was truly enjoyable. Can;t wait to go out again.
Thats all I have to say.

Enjoying Fall
(Total reading time 1 min.)
Fall has been here for a little while now. At some point I had to stop complaining about summer’s end and start enjoy fall. Autumn for many people brings images of orange leaves and sweaters. For me its pumpkins. Since I can remember I have always loved carving pumpkins. The minute you start scooping out the pumpkins gooey insides your inner child wakes up from hibernation. Almost every year since we have been married my wife and I carve these orange gourds two to three days before halloween. One year my wife carved an intricate design of a cat into the side pumpkin. I tend to cut large wholes in them like a meat butcher fantasizing that he was a plastic surgeon until they make funny or psychotic faces. Then when the carnage is finished we turn off all the lights and enjoy the flickering light that brings jack-o-lanterns to life.
This afternoon I loaded 4 giant pumpkins into my arms and walked to the cashier at Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm. I leaned to one side like I was drunken with cider playing pumpkin jenga as I walked. After the pumpkin challenge it was on to wine tasting at Martha Clara and Bedell Vineyards.
The weather for the remainder of the afternoon was picture perfect and seasonably warm for October. I sat with my wife and friends enjoying a bottle of wine thinking more days should be this way.
Goals with Friends
(Total reading time 1 minute)
After a near 20 mile bike ride this morning hear are my thoughts.
Everything is easier with friends. To often we spend time setting goals and forget about them when we are faced with a challenge. When you begin your quest for something the road can get very lonely by yourself. When you reach an obstacle the battle begins between reality and the little guy in your brain that tries to convince you it’s time to quit. Self discipline and determination can put much more distance between you and the evil little quitter but another person will silence him all together. This could happen through motivating conversation, distraction, encouragement or just a plain old reality check. Reaching a difficult goal can be made attainable and possibly even fun if you just allow yourself to have some help.
Find other people that are inspired to go out and live.
Thats all I have to say.
