I Am Music

12 days into my goal to post  on my blog everyday for a year. While I was reading the book Writing Down The Bones by Natalie Goldberg I was struck by a poem. I think this is the first poem I have ever written. A week ago i don’t think I could have even spelled the word poem.

I Am Music

I am music.
I am the sounds you hear.
The first breaths you take.
The last breath taken from you.
The sound of silence.
The sound of life and death.

I am music.
I am the songs sung
The words not read but remembered.
To celebrate your birth.
To blow out candles.
The sound of time.

I am music.
I am the words you read.
The A
The B
The C’s
The sound of words.

I am music.
I am movement.
The ticks, kicks and clicks.
The Booms that end in bap.
The steps forward to the side and back.
The sound of Rhythm.

I am music.
I am the fanfare they play.
For soldiers.
For proud families.
For lost souls and tears to fall.
The sound of honor and courage.
